What the application needs depends on the job: ### Interior remodels Dimensioned floor plans showing the existing walls, the walls being removed and the new ones, plus smoke alarm locations and, in a home with gas appliances, carbon monoxide alarms. Work that touches exterior walls also needs a site plan. ### Home additions Foundation, framing and roof plans with elevations, Green Building and energy compliance forms from registered third-party providers, and a form board survey before the foundation inspection. A second story on a one-story house needs an engineer's letter confirming the foundation and first-floor framing can carry it. ### Garage conversions Turning a garage into conditioned living space brings in the energy code, which can mean a certified third-party energy code provider and an Energy Code Compliance Certificate before the first inspection.
